Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Essay - 912 Words

The dual-diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD) is very prevalent. The rate of PTSD and SUD in adults receiving chemical dependency services ranges from 12% to 34% and the rates of trauma throughout the lifetime is even greater (Kessler, Sonnega, Bromet, Huges, Nelson, 1995; Langeland Hartgers, 1998; Najavits, Weiss, Shaw, 1997; Stewart, 1996; Stewart, Conrod, Pihl, Dongier, 1999; Triffleman, 1998). The Movie Wolf Of Wall Street - 1494 Words

Money, sex, drugs, and greed-these four words are characterized and displayed profoundly throughout the movie Wolf of Wall Street. Based on a true story about the life of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), the movie is narrated and gives insight to the struggle, power, and addictions that surrounded Belfort’s life. Belfort was a stockbroker who learned his way as an entry-level worker on Wall Street before creating his own company Stratton Oakmont. Belfort quickly learned that success on Wall Street was a result of doing any means necessary, regardless if it was the truth or providing a false sense of hope. His main scam involved selling cheap stocks and inflating the prices so the brokers can sell at a high price. Although this was illegal, Belfort was so involved and addicted to money and drugs that his scamming ways were irrelevant. Drug abuse was prominent throughout the entire movie. In the beginning of the movie, it’s narrated that Belfort on a daily basis  "consumed enough drugs to sedate Manhattan, Long Island, and Queens for a month.† There were multiple drugs introduced in the movie including Xanax, Cocaine, Morphine, and Adderall: however, the most prominent choice of drug was Quaaludes. The drugs provided Belfort with a sense on invincibility and also played a role into his sexual promiscuity. His addiction to drugs, money, and sex caused him to have a lack of empathy towards others and he only cared about his best interests. James Hetfield Essay Example For Students

James Hetfield Essay James Hetfield the American DreamJames is probably the driving creative force. Kirk HammettHetfield brings the pride. He stands a very tall and strong guy over all of, not just the music, but all of what is Metallica, hes been through a lot of shi* but still pushed to get where he is today.? Jason NewsteadAlthough the Americans dream, weather new or old to this country is to succeed financially, to some it is to become well known to your fellow man. The idea of crawling out of the gutter with nothing but your pride and earning respect from everyone who had doubted you before. Since the birth of this equal opportunity nation, people from all aspects of cultures and countries have strived through thick and thin to surpass their fellow man and better themselves in the eyes of society. The American dream does not just occur with citizens new to our country but to generations upon generations of people whose family tree had begun anew when their ancestors first arrived to this land. Thi s theory proves itself valid with a number of successful people who have never had the opportunity of experiencing ?old wealth?. They are ridiculed for their dreams and made fun of for their ideas, but in the end these prospects of society made it to the top with the occasional supporter and Hetfield was born to a truck driver and light opera singer on August 3rd, 1963, in Los Angeles. His familys Christian Science religious beliefs are often mentioned as the root of James tortured soul lyrics. Musically, he began at age 9 with piano lessons, then banging away on his brother Davids drums and finally to guitar. With his guitar in hand, James aspired to become a rock star in his first band, Obsession. After seeing AC/DC perform in Los Angeles on august 14th 1977The band was made up of the Veloz brothers on bass and drums and Jim Arnold on guitar. A pair of friends, Ron McGovney and Dave Marrs, acted as the bands roadies. This meant sitting in the loft of the Veloz garage running a con trol panel for makeshift lighting effects. After Obsession broke up, the Marrs-Hetfield-McGovney trio continued jamming together. Phantom Lord was James Hetfields second band. After moving to La Brea, James attended Brea Olinda High School and met up with drummer Jim Mulligan. The two would jam at lunchtime with another guitar player, but eventually scared him away with their loud and heavy sounds. Hugh Tanner was discovered carrying around part of a flying V guitar at school. And shortly thereafter, Phantom Lord was born. With Hugh on guitar and Mulligan on drums, James sang and played guitar. The group went through a few bass players until graduation when James moved back to Downey. In Downey, James moved into a house owned by Ron McGovneys parents that was slated for demolition due to an expressway expansion. This house was the perfect place for James and Ron to crash and hold rehearsal and practice jams. James talked Ron into taking up bass, and promised to teach him And as Ron joined the group, Phantom Lord was no more. They were now Leather Charm. James Hetfields third band overall, Leather Charm was formed from the members of Phantom Lord, except that James performed sole singing duties (no guitar) and Ron was added to play bass guitar. Completing the line-up were Phantom Lord carry-overs Hugh Tanner and Jim Mulligan. Leather Charm was more of a glammy attempt at music. The band played originals and covers like Quiet Riots Slick Black Cadillac, Iron Maidens Remember Tommorrow and a few others. The band managed to perform at a few parties and recorded a demo, but then began to fall apart. .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .postImageUrl , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:hover , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:visited , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:active { border:0!important; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:active , .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03 .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6b6f74ff22a08f3b3982a61f576cef03:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Road Not Taken Essay*Picture*First Tanner left the band and was replaced by Troy James. Then Mulligan left for a more progressive, Rush-like band. With no drummer, the band was forced to call it quits. Ultimately it was Leather Charms break up, through Jim Mulligans quitting, that led James and Lars to meet and to form Metallica. Sea Turtles in Costa Rica Need Help free essay sample

Costa Rica is home to many species of plants and animals, several of which are endangered species. Although Costa Rica is one of the leading nations in the green movement the country still has some bad practices and wildlife is suffering. Forests are often cut down to make way for cattle ranches and hotels for tourists are encroaching on already shrinking shore lines. This habitat loss is a problem for many species of both animals and plants. Three species whose populations are dwindling are the hawksbill, leatherback, and green sea turtles. Rising ocean waters are eating away at their nesting beaches from one end while hotels and beach houses take land on the other end. This is leaving less room for the turtles to lay eggs. According to Carlos Drews, a species coordinator for the World Wildlife Fund, if this pattern continues turtles will be nesting â€Å"between the tennis courts and swimming pools†. We will write a custom essay sample on Sea Turtles in Costa Rica Need Help or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Whether or not you believe in global warming, rising sand temperatures are having a devastating effect on these sea turtle populations. The gender of sea turtles is determined while they are developing in the egg, and it depends entirely upon the temperature of the sand they are buried in. At 85.4 degrees Fahrenheit a batch of eggs yields about 50% male and 50% female turtles. However, when the sand reaches 89.6 degrees all turtles will be female, and when the sand reaches 93 degrees all of the hatchlings die. Volunteers often relocate eggs to cooler sand so that the male to female ration can be balanced. Along with being threatened by habitat loss and rising temperatures sea turtle populations are also threatened by poachers. Elizabeth Rosenthal explains that young Costa Rican’s often look up to poachers because they make a lot of money; this is a problem because those young children then aspire to be poachers. Even people not looking for profit go to the beach to college turtle eggs to eat. They are considered a very tasting food by many locals who never stop to think about the animal that they are eating. Some Costa Rican’s are working to change this attitude by offering to let locals watch as newly hatched sea turtles are released for hatcheries and make their way toward the sea. Clearly Costa Rican wildlife needs protecting or many species will go extinct. Some locals are passionate about helping to rebuild sea turtle populations, but many more don’t care about the sea turtles or think of them as an important species on this planet. While the country is working on reducing their carbon footprint and slowing deforestation, many problems still exist and ate threatening endangered species. On top of everything else, the sea turtles are in more danger than ever with the current oil spill. Volunteers play a crucial role in providing service and educating locals so that work done to preserve sea turtles can continue after volunteers are gone.

Nurses pre-operative role: Assessment, Diagnostic studies, Medications, Education 5. Operation: Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting CABG: The nurses role and the surgical procedure The nurse plays a major role in the success of a cardiac surgery patient. They evaluate the patient pre-operatively, post-operatively, during surgery, and in cardiac rehab afterwards. This paper discusses the different diagnosis and treatments for patients undergoing (CABG) Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting. Underlying causes that make a need for CABG surgery The major cause of CAD (coronary artery disease) is atherosclerosis. This is a pathologic process that causes thickening of artery walls. The thickening usually starts in individuals after age 20. These fibrous plaques or lesions usually produce localized narrowing in the proximal portions of the major coronary arteries. The blood supply to the myocardium can be impeded by several mechanisms: the lesion creates a fixed obstruction so that blood flow through the artery cannot increase in response to demands, the vessel lumen becomes completely occluded, or portions of clot or plaque embolize. The growth of obstructive lesions in the coronary arteries cause other blood vessels to provide alternative routes for blood flow to the myocardium. If the blood vessel becomes completely occluded, myocardial infarction is likely to occur. There are three major risk factors in CAD: hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and cigarette smoking. Elimination or control of these factors offers hope of preventing disease and slowing its progression. Higher cholesterol levels, usually above 240 mg/dL increases risk for CAD. The risk factors for CAD that cannot be modified include: heredity, older age, and male sex. The individuals who are 30% over ideal body weight and who smoke...

American Airlines (AMR Corporation) Research Paper

American Airlines (AMR Corporation) - Research Paper Example This is because the business of stock trade holds no assurances and one has the potential to either enjoy large amounts of profit from their trades or suffer huge amounts of loss as well if things do go as expected (DePamphilis, 2009). The public companies whose shares are involved in this trade are able to profit as well in terms of stock value, which has the potential to raise the value of their company in general. This is to say that, the higher the price of their stock, the higher the value of the company. Due to this relation, senior management in such companies tends to focus on stock prices and ways that they can be increased on the market in the short term so as to raise the value of the company. This can read to unethical behavior as a result as the management may be tempted to trick individuals into thinking that their stock is worth more than it is in actuality (Sandage, 2006).
